Minister's response about new artificial reefs in the bay
May 13, 2008 - 3:42 PM - by jim1980
A question on notice was asked on the 14th Feb and the minister has finally made the following reply;

Question on Notice No. 110
Asked on Thursday, 14 February 2008
QUESTION:
MR WEIGHTMAN asked the Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and
Innovation (Mr McNamara) — Will he outline the Government’s position in
relation to artificial reefs in Moreton Bay?

ANSWER:
The science associated with artificial reefs has progressed enormously in
recent years. Therefore, this Government believes that we need to move
forward with developing artificial reefs to help ensure the resilience and
longevity of the great marine environment we have in Moreton Bay Marine
Park.
As part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park Zoning Plan review, the Government
has allocated $1 million towards researching, planning and constructing trial
artificial reefs. This trial project will run in parallel with the Moreton... [Read More]

Swiss ban catch and release too
May 13, 2008 - 7:25 AM - by el_carpo
Here we go again. Now the Swiss have banned catch and release fishing, barbed hooks and the use of live bait in some situations (what they are I do not know). Anglers have to bonk the fish they catch on the head to kill them right away. They also have to take a course on humane fishing practices and "prove" that they know how to do it properly. That's one sure way to get a complete ban on all fishing going. I wonder who gets to decide that you've "proven" yourself worthy or if it's even possible to do so and to whom do you prove yourself? Pffffff! What a load of typical idiocy.

Fascism is alive and well. They used to wear jackboots, now they wear sandals. Same desire for complete control over everyone's lives though.

"You CAN'T ANY MORE because we don't want you to." Pretty serious stuff. Today, it's catch and release fishing. What is tomorrow's new opinion-backed RULE?

William Tell is spinning in his... [Read More]

A Sign Of The Times- Another Business Closing
Apr 18, 2008 - 12:00 PM - by Poodroo
Another local Bait and Tackle shop suffers the fate of many and is going to close its doors for the last time after so many years of trade. "Beenleigh Bait and Tackle" is officially up for sale but if nobody offers to buy it the last day of trade will be the 28th. of April 2008. I was talking to the owner today and he is desperate to sell for just $50,000 which I think is a give away. His business suffered when all the new roadworks took place a while back limiting access to the shop. Will be a sad day to see it no longer trading.

Cheers,

Poodroo

Response From Minister For Sustainability
May 15, 2008 - 6:59 PM - by Poodroo
Hello all,
Recently I approached my local MP Hon. Margaret Keech MP with regards to my concerns about EPA and there control over the proposed green zones and the future of our Moreton Bay. Mentioned were things like green zones stopping people from fishing in area where the fish are making it pointless to even bother going out with the family to try fishing. Also mentioned were all the false claims that dugong and turtle deaths as a result of recreational boating strikes were anywhere near as high as what EPA are claiming. I made strong references to the fact that EPA supposedly are making their decisions based on so called scientific surveys and the whole idea of having the green zones in place are purely for the sustainablility but then they approve dredging billions of tonnes of sand out of the bay for the Brisbane Airport runway. My concerns were passed on to the Minister For Sustainability Andrew McNamara MP who sent his reply back via Margaret Keech. I thought I would... [Read More]
