The carbon zealot days might be numbered? |

Anyone see 60min tonight, they actually had 20min of alternative theory on prime time!!
Made our prime minister look like a right dope, an honest to goodness no brain in his head greenhouse proponent (is there any other kind).
Loved it when he tried on a couple of typical zealot-ish 'facts' and the reported pulled him into line . The only other place I have ever seen that happen is here on ausfish
Was a great show just to see this opposing view from mass media, a stark change form the paranoia just one year ago.
cheers fnq

environmentalist Tim Flannery targets outboards |
|
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:42 PM - by spinner

THE lawn mower and the outboard motor are the latest targets - albeit on a small scale - in the war against climate change.
Environmentalist Tim Flannery wrote to Environment Minister Peter Garrett last month, appealing for the Federal Government to fast-track the introduction of world-standard emissions regulations for small engines.
The US and Europe already regulate marine engine emissions, The Australian reports.
Professor Flannery, the 2007 Australian of the Year and chairman of the Copenhagen Climate Council, wrote that a lawn mower generated 40 times the emissions of a car, and two-stroke outboard engines were even worse.
He said the most polluting outboard motor model in Australia - which is made in the US but cannot be sold in that country because of the tight emissions regulations - put out more than 19.6kg of greenhouse gas emissions in an hour.
According to a report prepared last year for the... [Read More]

Review of the Rocky Reef Fin Fishery
Queensland Fisheries has initiated a review of the fish stocks that are covered under the Rocky Reef Fin Fishery (Includes Snapper, Pearl Perch, Teraglin Jew, Cobia and Grassy Sweetlip) reportedly after concerns were expressed by some in the Commercial and Recreational fishing sectors on the sustainability of the fish stocks
A stakeholder network working group has been formed and is working with Fisheries to identify and come up with a range of management options to address the issues raised before they are put to the broader community for consultation. This working group has three (3) representatives from the Recreational sector, three (3) from the Commercial sector, two (2) from the charter industry, two (2) from the tackle industry as well as a representative from seafood marketing.
After two meetings over 4 days the working group has made good progress while keeping in mind the following... [Read More]

Fisheries is conducting a review of the Rocky reef fin fishery including a review of Snapper, Pearl Perch and Jew bag and size limits in Queensland. The difference in size and bag limits of these species between Qld and NSW is also on the agenda.
I have been nominated by a Moderator of Ausfish to be one of the three representatives of the interests of recreational fishing. I will attend a working group at the Gold Coast on Monday and Tuesday 4 and 5 August. The working Group has representatives from recreational fishing (3), commercial fishing (3), Charter fishing (2), retail tackle industry (2) and various reps from Fisheries both Qld and NSW.
Sadly I will miss out on a trip on "Alexander" planned for Monday 4 Aug to chase snapper on the Barwon Banks.
My mind is open at this stage and I note that there will be public meetings arranged during August - early September for comments on any proposals arising from the working... [Read More]
