Minister's response about new artificial reefs in the bay
May 13, 2008 - 3:42 PM - by jim1980
A question on notice was asked on the 14th Feb and the minister has finally made the following reply;

Question on Notice No. 110
Asked on Thursday, 14 February 2008
QUESTION:
MR WEIGHTMAN asked the Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and
Innovation (Mr McNamara) — Will he outline the Government’s position in
relation to artificial reefs in Moreton Bay?

ANSWER:
The science associated with artificial reefs has progressed enormously in
recent years. Therefore, this Government believes that we need to move
forward with developing artificial reefs to help ensure the resilience and
longevity of the great marine environment we have in Moreton Bay Marine
Park.
As part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park Zoning Plan review, the Government
has allocated $1 million towards researching, planning and constructing trial

Response From Minister For Sustainability
May 15, 2008 - 6:59 PM - by Poodroo
Hello all,
Recently I approached my local MP Hon. Margaret Keech MP with regards to my concerns about EPA and there control over the proposed green zones and the future of our Moreton Bay. Mentioned were things like green zones stopping people from fishing in area where the fish are making it pointless to even bother going out with the family to try fishing. I made strong references to the fact that EPA supposedly are making their decisions based on so called scientific surveys and the whole idea of having the green zones in place are purely for the sustainablility but then they approve dredging billions of tonnes of sand out of the bay for the Brisbane Airport runway. My concerns were passed on to the Minister For Sustainability Andrew McNamara MP who sent his reply back via Margaret Keech. I thought I would... [Read More]

Moreton Island beach closures
May 08, 2008 - 10:08 AM - by DR

This information was passed on to me via email, and I thought I would post it here in case some were unaware, please take the time to sign the petition if you can.

Thanks Skippa,

This topic is pretty important to me, my family and friends. My sisters and I grew up on this island (since I was 5 years old), and still go there nearly every second weekend. These beach closures are unnecessary, and are not clearly being put in place for any environmental reasons. We are not disputing the beach closure at Cowan Cowan, as this is for environmental reasons. The other beaches (Combi and North Point) are being closed to vehicle access... [Read More]
