Rods for Alvey Reels
Alvey reels require rods which are correctly
set up in order to attain maximum efficiency from your reel.
The following points must be noted when
purchasing or making a rod to suit an Alvey reel.
-
Low winch fitting, about 15 to 20cm (6 to 8 inches)
from the end of the rod
- Most important feature, to avoid restricting the line coils when casting,
your first runner must be half way up the rod. This should be a large
guide with a 50mm (2 inch) diameter or a high mount guide with a 25mm
(1 inch) diameter or larger.
-
An open runner, mainly used when storing the rod and
reel. It can also be used when winding in the line without any or
very little load as it helps centre line when winding in. An open
runner is supplied with every reel, if you wish to have a rod made.
It is not critical to have an open runner on the rod.
